Vintage Anker Mohair Laughing Donkey green hat & red collar   1960s / 1970s
All of the art work and collectibles being sold by Adams-Byrd Fine Art & Antiques have been collected and selected one at a time by the proprietor, an art historian with many years of training and experience in university art history departments, museums, galleries, and historic sites both in the U.S. and abroad.  The business has been based in the Washington, D.C. area for many years. The art and collectibles that we are offering to eBay buyers are special and unique pieces that have been carefully “curated” by us.
This vintage Anker mohair laughing donkey / jackass / mule is wearing a green felt hat with a red band (it looks like some type of decoration had been glued on the back of the hat --- where there is a brown glue-like residue).
It has a red plastic/vinyl collar with a small metal buckle.
Its white and black eyes and its white teeth appear to be plastic (or some type of composite).
The dramatic details on its face (including its very long eyelashes !) are painted in black, and there are touches of red at the nostrils and on top of the ears.
The inside of its mouth is lined in pink felt.
Overall, its surface is in very good condition, but there is one little moth / insect hole on the right side of its face (towards the back of its neck).
This is a great vintage German donkey, decked out in a traditional hat.
It definitely has a personality.
It is more of a cartoon or caricature than the more “usual” German mohair donkey stuffed animals (for example those by Steiff).
Not only would this be a great holiday gift for a donkey and/or Anker collector, but this donkey would be the perfect gift for a Democrat in your life!

Several years ago we bought several old and cute "Steiff" stuffed animals from a collecting couple who gave us first choice of the interesting pieces they had both inherited and purchased.
This donkey, and a hippo and bear --- that we will be listing --- are all from the same collection.  A very helpful Ebay toy dealer/expert has confirmed that this donkey is by Anker (rather than Steiff as claimed by the former owners).
All items we sell are from a pet free and smoke free environment – unless prior owner history is noted above.
